The Australian Agricultural Economics Society, then the Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society, is celebrating 70 years of querulous questioning, contesting ideas, adding to theory, solving problems and debunking ill-conceived policy in agricultural and resource economics.

A Celebration Event is being held during the 71st Annual Conference of the AARES on Thursday, February 4th 2027: ‘Celebrating 70 years: Looking Back, Looking Forward - It's on for Young and Old’.

In keeping with the camaraderie that hitherto has been the Hallmark of the Society, an 'In Conversation' event involving a mix of AARES luminaries, old and young, reflecting backwards and looking forwards about AARES, and followed by a couple of hours of social drinks, is being held at the conference venue as part of the traditional 'Early Careers Program' and the 'Social Night'.
